Thirty seconds worth keeping out of a ten-minute recording, an intro to drop, a slow-motion moment to pull out and send in a message: cutting is the most common edit there is, and the one online tools serve worst, uploading hundreds of megabytes for a two-second gesture. Here the video stays on your device. It appears as a timeline of thumbnails, grabbed one by one by the browser across its full length, so you can find the passage with your eyes rather than guess at timecodes. Two handles slide in from the ends, the length you have kept is shown large, and to cut the video and trim it down to that clip you press one button. The result comes out as MP4.
By default the cut is made without re-encoding: the video is copied across as it stands between the two markers. That is instant and completely lossless, with a trade-off you should know about rather than discover — the start snaps to the nearest keyframe, the complete frames that punctuate a video file every one to ten seconds. Your clip may therefore begin slightly earlier than the marker you set. When precision matters more than speed, the “frame-accurate cut” option re-encodes the section so it starts exactly on the second you chose, at the cost of real computation lasting several minutes. Both methods are offered, both are explained, and the choice is yours.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my clip start slightly before the marker?
Because the fast cut never opens the video up: it copies the existing data. A compressed video can only restart on a complete keyframe, and those are inserted every one to ten seconds depending on the encoder. The start is therefore snapped to the keyframe immediately before your marker. Pick the frame-accurate cut in the settings if that second of drift bothers you.
Does cutting degrade the quality?
In the default mode, not at all: no frame is recomputed and the output file contains exactly the original data. In frame-accurate mode the section is re-encoded to H.264 at high quality — the loss is very small but real, as it is with any recompression.
What is the maximum length or size?
The tool accepts up to 1.5 GB, with a warning above 500 MB. Cutting without re-encoding copes well with big files precisely because it recomputes nothing; it is the frame-accurate cut that gets slow on a heavy video. Beyond the size ceiling, no limit is placed on duration.
Can I take several clips out of the same video?
Yes. After the first export, an “Another section” button takes you back to the timeline without reloading the file. Move the handles and run it again as often as you need — the video stays loaded in the tab, and there is nothing to upload a second time.
