Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between compressing and resizing?
Compressing lowers the file size while keeping the same pixel dimensions. Resizing changes the dimensions themselves. If your photo is also far larger than it needs to be (say 4000 px wide for a web page), run it through the resize tool as well — combining the two gives the biggest saving.
Which formats can I compress?
JPG, PNG and WebP, both in and out. HEIC photos from iPhones are accepted by most recent browsers; if yours refuses, convert the file to JPG first and then compress it.
Will I lose image quality?
You control the trade-off with the quality slider. At around 80% the loss is invisible for practically every use — websites, email, social media, online forms — while the file is a fraction of its original size.
Is there a file size limit?
No artificial limit. Because everything is processed locally, the only real constraint is how much memory your device has, and there is no cap on how many images you compress in a day.
