About this tool

Getting the text out of a PDF so you can edit it in Word saves retyping the whole thing. This converter extracts the textual content of your PDF paragraph by paragraph and hands it back as an editable Word document you can open in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.

Extraction happens in your browser, with a preview shown before you download. It works on “native” PDFs — files created from software — because scans are simply pictures of pages and would need optical character recognition to become text.

Frequently asked questions

Is the layout preserved?

The text, the paragraph breaks and the general structure come across. Complex layouts — multiple columns, nested tables, floating boxes — will usually need tidying up in Word afterwards.

Why is my scanned PDF coming out empty?

A scan is a photograph of a page: it contains no machine-readable text at all. Converting it requires OCR software, which this tool does not perform.

Will the file open in any version of Word?

Yes. The document opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Apple Pages without any conversion step.

Is my PDF uploaded to convert it?

No. The extraction runs entirely on your device, so confidential documents stay confidential.

Is it really free, with no sign-up?

Yes — the tool is free, needs no account and has no usage limit. Processing happens locally in your browser, so your data never leaves your device.
