About this tool
AVIF is the newest image format on the web — even more compact than WebP — and it increasingly turns up when you save a picture from a website. The problem: most software, print services and upload forms don't accept it yet. This page converts AVIF to plain JPG, the format everything has read for twenty-five years.
Decoding relies on your browser itself — every recent browser reads AVIF — then the image is re-encoded as a JPG at the quality you choose, with a preview and the file size shown before you download. No file is ever sent to a server, and a batch of images comes back as a ZIP.

What exactly is an AVIF file?
It's an image format derived from the AV1 video codec, adopted by major websites for its record-low file sizes at equal quality. Excellent for the web, still poorly supported everywhere else — hence this conversion to the universal JPG.
Why won't my AVIF file open?
If your browser is very old, it can't decode AVIF and the tool will tell you so. Every recent browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari 16 and later — reads it with nothing to install.
Will I lose quality?
The conversion re-encodes the image as a JPG at 92% by default: on screen, the result is indistinguishable from the original. Raise the quality in the advanced settings for print, or lower it to save space.
Is transparency preserved?
No — as always with JPG, transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose. If your AVIF contains transparency worth keeping, convert it to PNG instead.
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
